Product Care
Aluminum Flywheels
Please handle your Fidanza Performance lightweight aluminum flywheel with care. Aluminum is a malleable material and can be easily dented, marked, scratched or brineled. These markings may have no effect on the usability of your flywheel, but any significant scarring, denting or damage could render your flywheel non-useable. Do not drop or strike with hard objects/tools! If you have any questions as to the usable condition of a flywheel, please contact Fidanza’s Tech department at email: tech@fidanza.com or call 440-259-5656. Flywheel friction surface should be cleaned/wiped down with brake clean or similar cleaner prior to clutch installation. Please see Fidanza Flywheel Installation Instructions posted on our website for install details. Please inspect flywheel thoroughly before initial installation and follow OE factory recommended installation procedures as appearing in your factory service manual and your Fidanza Flywheel Installation Instructions sheet included with your flywheel. Please use appropriate grade hardware when installing your flywheel and clutch as catastrophic failure may occur if sub-par hardware is used or correct tightening methods and tolerances are not adhered to. Fidanza flywheels are balanced to within .5 grams during manufacture. ALL flywheels should be final balanced as a complete assembly with the clutch pressure plate being used prior to installation to optimize balance and minimize any noise or vibration. Flywheel and clutch balancing is usually available at a local performance shop or machine shop in your area.
Re-use of your flywheel
Flywheel friction surface should ALWAYS be replaced when installing a new clutch. Please thoroughly inspect your flywheel upon removal or before re-installation for any damage or unusual wear. All bolt holes, bolts, dowel holes, dowels and any bearings/bearing surfaces should be thoroughly inspected before re-installation/re-use. If the vehicle or driveline have been damaged resulting in the need for clutch, flywheel or driveline service, the flywheel body should be die checked for any damage, stress cracks, etc. to ensure safety. Ring gears should also be inspected for any damaged teeth, cracking, etc. Damaged ring gears may be serviceable or replaceable by Fidanza; please contact us for details. Flywheel friction surface should be cleaned with brake clean or similar cleaner before re-installation of clutch. Please follow installation instructions provided in your car’s factory service manual.
Clutches
Clutches should be thoroughly inspected before installation on any flywheel. For easiest installation, please use provided clutch spline alignment tool when installing your clutch. Please follow clutch installation instructions as supplied in your car’s factory service manual and Fidanza Clutch Installation Instructions sheet. ALL clutches should be balanced as an assembly with the flywheel that will be used prior to installation to optimize balance and minimize any noise or vibration. Flywheel and clutch balancing is usually available at a local performance shop or machine shop in your area. DO NOT contaminate flywheel or pressure plate friction surfaces or the actual clutch disc material with any oil, lubricant or chemical prior to or during installation as this may result in clutch failure. Any contamination will adversely effect clutch wear, longevity and performance, so please handle with care! Please use appropriate grade hardware when installing your clutch and flywheel as catastrophic failure may occur if sub-par hardware is used or correct tightening methods and tolerances are not adhered to. Please inspect installed clutch for proper alignment and function prior to transmission installation.
Cam gears
Please handle your Fidanza Performance adjustable cam gears with care. Aluminum is a malleable material and can be easily dented, marked, scratched or brineled. These markings may have no effect on the usability of your cam gears, but any significant scarring, denting or damage could render your cam gears non-useable. Do not drop or strike with hard objects/tools! If you have any questions as to the usable condition of a cam gear, please contact Fidanza’s Tech department at email: tech@fidanza.com or call 440-259-5656. Cam gears should be thoroughly inspected before installation on your engine. Please check and re-torque cam gear adjustment bolts prior to engine startup to ensure they are secure. Adjustment of cam gear timing should be done by an experienced mechanic to minimize potential for engine damage and to ensure optimized tuning of your engine. Optimized cam gear timing adjustment should be done with the assistance of a dynamometer or means of real-time engine performance feedback. Please be sure ALL cam gear adjustment bolts are tightened to the appropriate torque spec and that appropriate grade hardware is used for cam gear installations, as hardware breakage or loosening may result in catastrophic engine failure! Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents to clean your cam gears as this may result in surface deterioration or loss of surface anodizing and finish.
